Drew’s Mommy

Things to buy when we win the Army Lottery

So, we keep thinking of all kinds of things that we need to buy. Considering both of us are unemployed at the moment, we can’t exactly go out and buy these things. If/When hubby gets his officer comission back, and rejoins the army, we need/want to buy lots of things. We jokingly call it the Army Lottery. I’m going to start a running list of all the items that we need….because they keep going through my head and then I forget them. Like now, I’ve already forgotten the items that made me think that I should write this post. :)Gate for driveway
Pavers for grill
In-home therapist/playmate for Drew
Phone consult with Dr. Bradstreet (BEST DAN! doctor)
Trees for landscape around pool
Pay off trip for autism conference
Order from Digestive Wellness – this one may happen sooner rather than later
Porch addition
Addt’l patio for grill
Lawn & Pool service in hubby’s absence
Storage for lawn equipment

Ok, so some of those sound trivial but I promise I thought of a few meaningful things before I started this post. LOL.

Saturday’s At Our House

Saturday, March 07, 2009

It’s Cooking Day… Since Drew has been on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD), it’s much easier to cook large batches of food and freeze them for throughout the week. I’m still working out my routine. He’s in Stage 2 and dabbing into Stage 3 of the diet. Many kids with autism have had fabulous results with this diet…we’re still awaiting those results. Despite no overwhelming improvements, at least I go to bed at night knowing that he has been fed extremely nutritious foods that are HOPEFULLY healing that Leaky Gut Syndrome of his!!Here’s what I cooked today:

organic green beans (cooked, pureed, and froze in ice cube trays)
organic pears (same)
mashed cauliflower
pecan milk (which he’ll go through in about 3 days)
turkey sausages
pecan butter
pear pancakes with pecan flour
pear pancakes with almond flour

I did order from the SCDbakery earlier this week. We received lemon cookies and Easter sweet bread. Their food is really good although small in quantity and a bit expensive. I’ll continue to order from them though!!

Drew woke up at 8:15 am!! 🙂 His nap was from 2:10 -4:30 🙂 However, Drew has been a bit fussy today which I associate with the gloomy weather. I asked some of my Autism Mommy friends if their kids react differently in bad weather. So far, no one has noticed.
2pps ..note: We have been on new probiotic for a little over a week. PPS are usually in the very early AM and large and full in consistency. No big “D” though or “C” which is good. The SCD legal probiotic that Drew recently started is Lactobacillus Acidophilus. More about why we chose that probiotic (along with S Boulardii later).

Today is a MB-12 shot day… I’ll post more on that subject soon.

Today’s food intake: pecan bread, cranberry juice, walnut pancakes, a few pieces of apple, grape juice, chicken meatballs w/ spinach, avacado w bananas (w both fish oils), lemon cookies, pieces of freshly baked pear pancakes, mashed cauliflower. NOTE: out of S Boulardii and L-glutamine!!

Quick Recap of our day:
Today we went to therapy and Drew worked with Yurmea. He was dressed super cute in a redstriped polo shirt and jeans. He watched way too much DVD while there. He is getting better at eye contact though. Meanwhile, I went to Market Street and really liked it.

Drew ate: turkey, pancakes, apples, honey bread, green beans, squash, meatballs, pecan milk, blueberry juice, white grapejuice, nut muffin, pears, chicken nuggets, green beans, squash

MB-12 shot YESTERDAY. Nordic Naturals CLO, Complete Omegas, and all others
Nap 2:30-3:45
Jennifer over for afternoon therapy.

2pps today. He’s bloated and a bit spacey. We really need to figure out what is messing with him.

We met our neighbors Pey-ching, Steve, and David.

Drew imitated Daddy brushing his teeth.

Biomedical Treatments

Friday, March 06, 2009

Here is a list of the current supplements that Drew is on:Cod Liver Oil (Very good results! Supposed to help with speech delay)
Omega 3.6.9 (Fish Oil)
Vit C (Saw improvement)
Vit E
Folinic Acid (to work with Methyl-B12 shots)
P5P (B6+Magnesium)
Grapefruit Seed Extract (anti-fungal) This stuff is potent!
L-Glutamine (Amino Acid)
S Boulardii (Probiotic/Anti-fungal/Good Yeast)
Lactobacillus Acidophilus (SCD Legal Probiotic)
Magnesium Sulfate Cream (Helps with tantrums…seriously)
Methyl B-12 injections (most obvious results from our biomedical treatments)

Most beneficial treatments so far: CLO, Vit C, GSE, Methly B-12

The ABA therapy is “reaching” Drew in ways that we haven’t been able to do in almost a year. We look very forward to seeing his recovery progress using all of the above listed interventions.

Here we go….

I recently started this blog on a different host site.  Unfortunately, I was having some trouble setting it up so I’m just going to copy some of my old posts and transfer them over to this one.

This is a journal of my son Drew’s recovery from autism.  He is not recovered….yet.  Mostly, I will just post quick daily entries so that I can keep up with his food, supplements, and therapy progress.  Drew has been on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) for almost 2 months and gluten/casein free for six months.  He’s been undergoing biomedical treatments for five months.  And, we recently started a more intensive ABA therapy.

Drew is healing.  It is obvious.  It may not be a quick road; but we will follow it as long as we have to in order to get our baby back!

Topics to discuss in the future:

  • DAN! doctors and their protocol
  • Methyl B-12 and its results
  • Vaccinations and my opinion
  • Therapies, cost, and insurance
  • Links that I rely on
  • The Autism Emotional Roller Coaster
  • and many more…
